MARCH 7, 2010
The Department of Labor released the February 2010 jobs report and the employment news is looking up. The number of employees downsized for the month was reduced to 36,000, as compared to 726,000 downsized 12 months prior. Since the recession began in December 2007, more than 8.2 million people have joined the unemployment rolls. However, there is additional favorable news on employment. One sector that has been adding new labor is Temporary Services - adding an estimated 48,000 jobs in February.
The number of persons being laid off monthly continues to decline suggesting more signs of a recovery. Additional evidence of a recovery can be seen in the number of positions that our staff is recruiting for (see Active Job Listings) on our website. Employers are becoming increasingly more interested in talking with Recruiting and Staffing professionals about the kinds of talent in the market. "Employers are forward-thinking and beginning to implement strategy to corner the best talent so that they are ready when hiring budgets are restored" notes Matt Hoefling, Vice President of Human Capital's Talent Practice.
